Nadín Ospina
He was born in Bogotá, Colombia, on May 16, 1960, the son of lawyer Nadín Ospina and Lucy Valbuena. He studied at the Jesuit college San Bartolomé de la Merced, where he acquired rigorous training and a social and political awareness focused on the Latin American population’s problems.
He studies plastic arts at Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in Bogotá. He is a Colombian pop artist and painter, he is mainly recognized for making figures based on pre-Columbian art with characters from popular culture such as Mickey Mouse or Bart Simpson.
Nadín Ospina reveals a firm will to break with all conventionalism, an independent and free open attitude, and a tendency to try and act intuitively. His work also highlights a connection between today’s art and the symbols of mythical prehistory, hence that effect between magical and symbolic characterizes it.
